Orthodontics for children
Orthodontic treatment for children can begin as early as age 7.

Orthodontic treatment for children
There are advantages to undergo orthodontic treatment at an early age, even if a child has only her/his baby teeth (primary dentition) or a combination of baby and adult teeth (mixed dentition). If at your first visit you are informed that you will not need orthodontic treatment, we suggest a follow-up to monitor tooth development and eruption.
Immediate intervention may be necessary to prevent certain problems. Early treatment can reduce the complexity of a second phase of orthodontic treatment during adolescence (full treatment).
Our care
When orthodontics for children is recommended
This first phase of treatment, also known as the interceptive phase, lasts anywhere from 12 to 18 months. At the end of this phase, we will provide a follow-up until most of your permanent teeth have grown in.
At this point the orthodontist will determine if you need further orthodontic treatment.
There are several reasons why you should book a visit to an orthodontist for your child:
- Make space for permanent teeth (adult teeth)
- Correct bad habits such as thumb sucking, using a pacifier for too long or incorrect tongue position
- Balance the width of the upper and lower arches
- Improve tooth positioning and aesthetics
- Avoid wear and trauma to teeth due to poor occlusion
- Reduce the risk of more extensive orthodontic treatment in adolescence or adulthood
